How You Can Help

Get Involved

Volunteers Needed for the Directory

We need a few volunteers to help the new Family of Christ pictorial directory come together smoothly. Positions needed: people to make appts at church on Sundays, to design the paper directory, and to check people in as they arrive for their photo sessions. Contact Pam Schumacher.

Feed My Starving Children

Help end starvation in children around the world by packing meals at FMSC. FoC has committed to a packing session every third Wednesday of the month, 9:30-11:30 AM. The next session is Wednesday, May 15. Questions? Contact Ron Larson

TreeHouse Service Opportunity

Every other month, FoC provides a meal for at-risk youth who utilize TreeHouse, a Christian outreach program in Chaska. Volunteers are needed to provide food & to help serve on Thursday, May 16. Youth or adults may help. There is a sign-up sheet on the CIA bulletin board near the kitchen. Contact Dawn Peterson if you have any questions.

Dust Off that Flute in the Closet!

Flute players are needed for worship on Sunday, May 19. Mary Renz will have music available in the church office this week. There will be one rehearsal on Saturday, May 18, at 11:00 AM. Let Mary know if you're interested.

Host Families Needed

Would you be willing to be a host family for the Luther Crest staff this summer? We need 3 homes, each hosting 2 or 3 college age staff, on June 16, 17, 18, and the morning of June 19. If you are interested in more details, contact Teri Burns.

Mowers Needed

Volunteers are needed to mow Family of Christ’s property & save the church money! If 24 people volunteer, the time commitment is only about 90 minutes four or five times/season. If you can help, contact Dave Maenke or let Marilyn know in the office.

Knot-tying Party!

Come have fun tying knots with Family of Christ's quilters! They meet every other Friday afternoon at 1:00 at church (check the online calendar for exact dates). There is no sewing involved – just knot-tying & having a good time! Children are welcome. If you can only stay for an hour, it is appreciated. The quilts are donated to Lutheran World Relief and comfort people around the world. For more info, contact Lynne Merrick through the church office (952-934-5659).

Volunteers Needed

Southern Valley Alliance for Battered Women needs volunteers to answer the 24-hour crisis line from their own homes. SVABW also seeks volunteers to facilitate support groups and provide childcare. For more information, please call Cindy or Jan at 952-873-4214.

The Young Adult Ministry (YAM)

is looking for new recruits to help stuff letters & care packages a few times a year to send to FoC young adults. Contact Lindsey Ruhland if you can help out!

Donate

Donations for El Salvador

Each month, we change the focus of the items we are collecting to take to El Salvador. In May, donations of toothbrushes and toothpaste are needed. If you happen to be visiting your dentist this month, ask if he or she is willing to help us out. You might even want to make a special trip to ask. This is one time we need new, as slightly used will not do! Yuck!!

Books Needed

With spring cleaning & the end of the school year, you might be finding you have books you don't need or want anymore. Here's your chance to donate books of all kinds—including textbooks—to eager readers who don’t have any of their own. CIA (Christians in Action) will collect books until mid-June & divide the donations between 2 worthy causes: Books for Africa (which shipped 2.2 million books to 22 African countries last year) & Reading is Fundamental (for young children — a local effort connected to CommonBond nationally). Bring used books in good condition to FoC by Sunday, June 16.

Spring Cleaning?

Hoping to be done with your winter coats (finally) for this year? Are there any you want to get rid of permanently? (We have had to wear them a lot lately!) Why not store them & bring them to FoC next fall? One of our CIA members, Judy Prinz, will be conducting a coat & jacket drive for Caring & Sharing Hands at that time. Only clean & wearable garments, please. All sizes are needed (especially larger sizes & those for teens). If you have questions, check with Judy (call the chuch office for her contact info: 952-934-5659).
