Welcome

Building Use Policies

General Principles

  1. Our church-Family home is first and foremost a house of prayer and worship, a place of fellowship and learning, and a tool for ministry. As "good stewards of God's many gifts" (1 Peter 4:10) and responsible to each other in our Family, we wisely manage our building's use and expect that our guests will do so, too - all of us treating its use as a privilege, not a right, making sure to maintain its safety, cleanliness, and security.
  2. It is the explicit policy of Family of Christ Lutheran Church - as good citizens of our school district, neighborhood, and city - to provide our building and resources for the good of our community. Our facilities may be used by groups whose goals and values are consistent with those of our congregation.
  3. Because Family of Christ is a community of faith and clear about its open doors for all persons, we provide our space only to groups who do not discriminate on the basis of gender, race, religion, economics, sexual preference, or other forms of prejudice.
  4. Lois Groen, the administrative secretary, is the staff person responsible for building use and management. She serves as staff liaison for an operations committee and is the first individual that church members call with questions regarding building use, scheduling, or maintenance.
Policy
  1. It is the responsibility of the contact person to notify the administrative secretary (Lois Groen) at least one week in advance of any changes in the scheduled room usage - even if it's only a one time change - but especially, if it's a permanent change or if you are requesting additional space or time.
  2. Reservations are limited to the space that has been assigned. Groups and individuals cannot use other parts of the facility without prior arrangements with the administrative secretary. Do not presume that additional space is available without first verifying it. Whoever is scheduled will have priority regarding the use of the space in question.
  3. Church staff members have master keys and are responsible for internal and external building security when they are on site. The normal policy is for all rooms to remain locked and to be unlocked by a church staff person upon request. Users of church space, NOT STAFF, are responsible for the condition of that space before leaving the building. Users of the facility are also responsible for the security of the building upon leaving. If you are the last person/group to leave - make sure that all lights are off. (There are a number of lights that stay on for safety reasons.) and that all exterior doors are locked. It is your responsibility to know how to lock these doors! Please check at the time the key is issued.
The nursery may be used by individuals or groups, but must be checked in and out through the administrative secretary. Again, YOU are responsible for leaving it in tip-top condition. Groups that consistently do not return it to "tip-top" condition, will lose the privilege of using it.

Sound System/Music Equipment
Electronic and musical equipment in the sanctuary is dedicated to worship use and selected other programs of ministry and can be used ONLY with the prior approval of the Director of Music. Some equipment is privately owned and graciously loaned to our church for use; all the equipment is expensive and requires training. Settings, connections, and arrangements of equipment are detailed, specific and technical. We ask that all congregation members or other users of the facility respect this important policy!
