Welcome

Christians in Action (CIA)

Our CIA mission statement centers on this portion of our church's mission:

God calls us to serve others who touch our daily lives in our neighborhoods and communities, in school, at work, and beyond...

Family of Christ's Christians in Action committee serves others by providing financial help, appropriate good, and direct services that attend to the needs of children, youth, and adults in our immediate area, the greater Minneapolis area, and around the globe.

We provide our congregation with opportunities to participate in mission work at their comfort level, ranging from making financial contributions to serving people directly.

MARCH IS FOOD MONTH FOR CIA - Family of Christ's Christians In Action (CIA) outreach program emphasis for March is food!

  • FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN (FMSC) offers hope to the hungry in body around the world and the hungry in spirit here at home. In 2004 23,000+ volunteers (the majority under the age of 18) visited FMSC facilities to manually assemble meal packages for hungry children. That year more than 5.8 million meals were packaged and shipped to hungry children in orphanages, schools and clinics around the world. Each package contains nutritionally-rich meals of rice, extruded soy nuggets, vitamins, minerals, a vegetarian chicken flavoring, and dehydrated vegetables.
  • FMSC packaging sites are in Brooklyn Park, Eagan, and now a new site opened March 1st here in Chanhassen at 18732 Lake Drive East. Learn more about FMSC, how to volunteer, and where to send donations; visit their web site info@fmsc.org.
  • Family of Christ also supports PROP (People Reaching out to Other People), the food shelf serving Eden Prairie and Chanhassen, averaging 234 requests for food, serving 9,000+ individuals, and distributing 15,000 pounds of food each month. Current needs are: oil, sugar, flour, coffee/tea, instant mashed potatoes, canned vegetables and fruit, pork and beans, pancake mix/syrup, rice, saltines, spaghetti sauce, peanut butter/jelly, toilet paper, bar soap. The PROP box is outside the kitchen and WE DELIVER.
Cash is also needed. Food shelves have access to discounted food that we don't. PROP purchases eggs, orange juice, hamburger, hot dogs and margarine each week to supplement the non-perishable food in each food order. Make your checks payable to Family of Christ but designate Minnesota Food Share OR PROP on the memo line. Checks made directly to Minnesota Food Share go to their headquarters in Minneapolis.
