How You Can Help

FMSC Packing Sessions

FoC packing sessions have been scheduled at FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN for every Wednesday during lent, beginning February 14 (Ash Wednesday), from 9:30 - 11:30.  Hunger never goes away, but you can make a difference.  No need to sign up, just show up.

Be a Giver:

This Lenten season, join Preschool, Sunday school and Christos children and families in collecting items for “Happy Wheels” - a new program at Children’s Hospital of Minnesota in partnership with the Ronald McDonald House, St. Paul.

Here are the needed items: (ALL ITEMS MUST BE NEW)

  • Adult coloring books
  • Colored pencils and sharpeners
  • Pens with 5x7 inch notepads
  • Decks of cards
  • Decks of game cards such as Uno or Go Fish
  • Balls- small nerf balls or stress balls
  • Heat packs (can be one-time use or reusable)
  • Hot Wheels Cars

Between Feb. 14 and March 30, bring as many items as you would like and place them in the designated bins in the narthex.  We will be putting the items into bags during our O.W.L. (Only With Littles)  Easter Egg Hunt Event on March 31.

Empty Bowls

People Reaching out to People (PROP) is hosting an empty bowls event on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Eden Prairie. Come enjoy a delicious bowl of soup and take home a beautiful handmade bowl as a reminder of the many empty bowls we have in our community. Enjoy live entertainment and a silent auction of artisan crafts from local artists.  They will be serving from 11:30-1:00 & 4:00-7:00.  No ticket required, a freewill donation to PROP will be taken. For more information go to:

Families Moving Forward

Immanuel Lutheran Church in Eden Prairie is hosting “Families Moving Forward” (FMF) from Feb. 25 - March 4.  Immanuel transforms it’s classrooms for a week into a safe, homey place for families to stay. The families are in transition working with FMF staff to get back on their feet.  There are a few ways to help:  being part of evening hospitality, playing with kids, serving a meal or serving as an overnight host. These jobs require a small commitment, usually around 2 hours, but mean so very much to the families in the program. If you are interested in helping, please contact Wendie Ulku or Jeanne Aamot  or sign-up for a volunteer position at ( Please write FOC after your name when you sign so Immanuel Lutheran can identify us.

Blood Drive

Save a life this Lenten Season! Memorial Blood Centers will be here Sunday, March 18 from 8:00–11:30. Sign up for a time online (sponsor code 4049) or if it’s easier for you, call or email Kim to schedule (952-934-5659 ext. 11). Let’s continue our streak of a full drive – at least 20 people donating!  We can do it!

March is Minnesota Food Share Month

Our Christians in Action (CIA) Committee encourages you to continue our usual church practice of donating food items by placing them in the bins kitty corner from the kitchen window.  But further, since money donations are especially helpful (and are boosted in March through corporate matching funds), we encourage you to see the Christians in Action bulletin board display.  Gifts of cash or checks made out to Family of Christ and placed in the big envelope on the display will directly benefit either Bountiful Basket or PROP.

Shared Ministry Volunteers

“Many hands make lite work…” Not to sound motherly but we could  use a lot more hands helping out in our Shared Ministry group! We have a wonderful, dedicated bunch of volunteers currently working very hard to make everyone’s weekly worship experience enjoyable. Please consider helping out in this area whether it be serving coffee (hospitality), communion, ushering or stepping up to be an Assisting Minister! If you’re interested or have questions, contact Kim Schaeferle, our Connections Coordinator.

Know Someone Who Could Benefit from a Prayer Shawl?

The Prayer Shawl Ministry makes prayer shawls for anyone in need of some warmth and comfort, or anyone having a difficult time in their lives.  Please let Melanie Wegner know if you have an idea of someone who could use a prayer shawl.  She would be happy to wrap one up and deliver it.

Want to Help Make the Prayer Shawls?

In the cold, dark nights of winter, would you like to learn how to knit or crochet? It is very comforting and satisfying to pray and serve others by making prayer shawls for people. We would love to teach you.  If you already know how or would like to learn how to crochet or knit, and would like to join us making prayer shawls, please contact Melanie Wegner or join us on Fridays at 11:15am in the church youth room.  Newcomers are always welcome!

Congregational Care

Do you love to cook? We are looking to add to our list of meal donors for families who are going through trying times. When we hear of a family that could use a meal or two, I will send out an email to the whole list, if the date works well for you, you would just respond that you’re available and I would send you their contact information.  You don’t need to commit to a certain number of meals per year; it’s very much an “if it works for you” kind of volunteer spot but one that is very much appreciated by the recipients! Contact Kim if you’re interested in helping out! Thank you!
