Ash Wednesday & Lent

Please make room in your schedules for this holy & contemplative time in the church.

Ash Wednesday Worship

February 22, 5:30 & 7:00 PM

Blessing of the Crosses

We invite you to bring a cross from your home to our Ash Wednesday worship. When you arrive for worship, bring the cross forward and place it near the altar. Toward the end of the service, we will have a ‘Blessing of the Crosses.’ It should be a cross that can be then brought back to your home to be placed in a visible spot as a focus of your devotions and prayers. It can be a wall-hanging cross, or a necklace, or a picture – whatever you like. Note also that we will not have Holy Communion at our Ash Wednesday worship, as we’ll keep our focus simply upon the imposition of ashes, and the Biblical injunction to be faithful in our discipleship.

Lenten Worship

On the following 5 Lenten Wednesdays (Feb. 29-Mar. 28), we’ll have worship from 7:30-8:00 PM, joining with our confirmation class which normally has worship during this midweek time. For these evening services, we’ll use Holden Evening Prayer.

We’ll also be adding an extra midweek service at noon throughout Lent (from Feb. 29-Mar. 28) from 12:00-1:00 PM which will involve a simple lunch of soup and bread, followed at 12:30 by a quiet, contemplative worship service. Take a needed break from the busy-ness of your life by spending time in spiritual refreshment on Lenten Wednesdays.

Keeping Sabbath

This will be our theme throughout Lent as we learn together how to find rest, renewal and delight in the midst of our busy lives. Our church staff will be reading Sabbath, a book by Wayne Muller, and we invite you to pick a copy up (for $10) in the church office. Our pastors will be peppering their preaching with themes such as a) balancing work, rest, and worship; b) ‘letting it be’ through prayer; and c) hearing the call from God to make room for the holy in your life. Near the end of our Lenten Journey, we’ll have a one-time book study session to enjoy your responses to your reading and draw out more nourishment from this interesting and healing book. Note: you don’t have to read the book to come to our Lenten worship experiences, but it will simply enhance your worship experience if you can read along with the church staff.

Yoga During Lent

Our Lenten theme is “Keeping Sabbath,” reminding us to make time for rest & renewal in our busy lives. Yoga can be just that. Please join Kim Motschenbacher for a 6-week series on Thursdays during the season of Lent, beginning Thursday, February 23. Two class options:  6:00-6:55 PM or 7:00-7:55 PM. Kim’s instruction focuses on stretching, breathing and finding stillness within, along with Lenten devotions. Cost for the series is $45, payable the first evening of class. Participants should wear snug-fitting clothes that they can move in. Bring a yoga mat, water and a towel. Please sign up on the poster in the narthex. Questions? Contact Kim or Leann Thompson.

Taizé Prayer During Lent

Lenten Taizé Prayer is held Thursdays, March 8 and March 29, at 7:00 PM at St. Hubert in Chanhassen. People of all faiths are welcome to join in this beautiful candlelit prayer service, which includes scripture readings, songs, prayer, & a reflection. (Pr Kristie is offering the reflection March 8.) Enter into Taizé Prayer during your Lenten Journey – open your heart to hear the whispering of the Lord.
