How You Can Help

Seeds of Hope (website)

We are seeking sponsors for several elementary students at $190/year. Also, general donations to Seeds of Hope are always helpful as well. Consider giving a donation as a gift for a friend or family member. All donations are tax deductible. Look for a Seeds of Hope representative in the narthex after the service.

A Simpson House Opportunity for FoC

Family Fun Kits provide a fun experience for families when they achieve a school attendance goal.  All completed kits are due back to church by Dec. 9th.

Our Saviour's Housing

We are looking for volunteers to prepare a meal, or to help serve dinner to the residents of Our Saviour's Housing on Friday, December 21st.  Prepared meals or food items can be dropped off at FoC, and the servers will bring them along to serve that evening.  If you would like to be part of this ministry, there is a sign-up sheet on the CIA bulletin board near the kitchen. Contact Melissa Gunderson with any questions at or 952-807-1122.

Our Saviour's Winter Clothing Drive

The Christians in Action (CIA) committee will be collecting both men's and women's gloves/mittens, scarves, hats, coats, warm winter socks, sweatshirts or sweatpants (new or gently used), underwear and undershirts (any size) for Our Saviour's Housing in Minneapolis. The items will be delivered on December 21st, when we next serve a meal.  Please see our display on the CIA bulletin board outside of the kitchen to learn more about Our Saviour's Housing.

Families Moving Forward

On December 16, Family of Christ members will again be participating in this             special ministry which provides support for homeless families who are staying a week at Shepherd of the Hills Church (145 Engler Blvd., Chaska). We are seeking volunteers to serve as activity hosts and provide a portion of the meal. This event will take place from 5-8pm, with dinner being served at 6. To be an activity host during the evening please contact Richard Donnay.  Sue Provo will be coordinating the dinner via Sign Up Genius.  Contact Sue with any questions regarding the meal.

ELCA Good Gifts

Need a feel-good gift idea for that person who has everything? This year’s Christmas Tree in the Narthex is supporting ELCA’S GOOD GIFTS PROGRAM. An animal can make a world of difference for a family in need. Animals provide food to eat, fertilizer to grow crops and offspring to sell at the market. Good Gifts also supports local business, immunizations and access to clean water. Using the envelopes near the tree, bring donations back to FoC by Dec. 23. Take the ornament and/or card to give as a gift. This is a great way for FoC to come together and make a huge difference in the world church! Thank you for your generosity!

FoC is Register on Amazon Smile

What does this mean?  Amazon Smile is the exact same as Amazon: still great selection, great prices, but a portion of every dollar purchased on Smile.Amazon benefits the church. It won’t cost you anything to use it, and it won’t change the prices on Amazon either. Go to: to purchase off of Amazon Smile and give back directly to Family of Christ, Chanhassen.

Can Collection

Did you know that Family of Christ collects cans in the parking lot? Because of your donations, nearly $450 goes to summer youth trips each year. Thank you for sharing your recyclables.

Shared Ministry Vounteers

HELP!!! We could use a lot more hands volunteering in our Shared Ministry group! We have a wonderful, dedicated bunch of volunteers currently working very hard to make everyone’s weekly worship experience enjoyable. Please consider helping in this area whether it be serving coffee (hospitality), communion, picking up and delivering the weekly donuts, ushering or stepping up to be an Assisting Minister! If you’re interested or have questions, contact Kim Schaeferle, our Connections Coordinator.

Know Someone Who Could Benefit from a Prayer Shawl?

The Prayer Shawl Ministry makes prayer shawls for anyone in need of some warmth and comfort, or anyone having a difficult time in their lives.  Please let Melanie Wegner know if you have an idea of someone who could use a prayer shawl.  She would be happy to wrap one up and deliver it.

Want to Help Make the Prayer Shawls?

In the cold, dark nights of winter, would you like to learn how to knit or crochet? It is very comforting and satisfying to pray and serve others by making prayer shawls for people. We would love to teach you.  If you already know how or would like to learn how to crochet or knit, and would like to join us making prayer shawls, please contact Melanie Wegner or join us on Fridays at 11:15am in the church youth room.  Newcomers are always welcome!

Congregational Care

Do you love to cook? We are looking to add to our list of meal donors for families who are going through trying times. When we hear of a family that could use a meal or two, I will send out an email to the whole list, if the date works well for you, you would just respond that you’re available and I would send you their contact information.  You don’t need to commit to a certain number of meals per year; it’s very much an “if it works for you” kind of volunteer spot but one that is very much appreciated by the recipients! Contact Kim if you’re interested in helping out! Thank you!

Thrivent Choice Dollars

Thrivent Members Please consider donating your Thrivent Choice Dollars today to Family of Christ. In the past, these dollars have been used to sponsor J-Term, the summer Block Party and the Annual Meeting Luncheon. Thanks for all your support – these dollars really add up fast!
